The Culling Games arc begins in chapter 159, after Perfect Preparation arc.

Megumi informs Yuji that Kenjaku (Pseudo Geto) has started a new thing called Culling Games. Despite his unwillingness, Megumi will have to participate in this game because his sister is also involved in it. He also seeks help from Yuji. Then, Yuji asks him about their plan, Megumi tells him that first of all, they have to go to Lord Tengen because Lord Tengen knows all the details about the Culling Games.

Here it is also revealed that Lord Tengen is female and she is hiding inside Tokyo Jujutsu High by using her concealing barrier, named The Tombs of the Star Corridor.

But then Choso enters the conversation and tells them where is the exact location of Tengen.

So Choso along with Yuji, Yuta, Maki, Megumi, and Tsukumo went to visit Lord Tengen.

Lord Tengen then explains the plan of Kenjaku, that Kenjaku wants to merge her with the whole human population of Japan.

After failing to merge with the star-plasma vessel Riko, Tengen has now evolved into a cursed spirit, rather than a human. And, Kenjaku has gained the ability to manipulate curses after taking possession of Geto’s body. That’s why Tengen became the target of Kenjaku.

The motive behind starting the Culling Games is to obtain a large amount of cursed energy needed for the merger. He plans to gather the cursed energy from all the sorcerers who are participating in the games. The battles between the sorcerers during the Culling Games will cause a significant amount of cursed energy to leak out, which Kenjaku will collect to use in his attempt to merge Tengen with Humanity.

There are 8 rules in the culling games:-

  • After awakening a cursed technique, players must declare their participation in the culling games at a colony of their choice within 19 days.
  • Any player who breaks the previous rules shall be subject to cursed technique removal. Means instant death. But this rule doesn’t apply to those who don’t have cursed energy.
  • Nonplayers who enter the colony become players at the moment of entry and shall be considered to have declared participation in the culling game. Citizens already in the colony will be given a chance to exit the area.
  • Players score points by ending the lives of other players.
  • Points are determined by the gamemaster and indicate the value of a player’s life. As a general rule, sorcerers are worth 5 points and non-sorcerers are worth 1 point.
  • Excluding the point value of a player’s life, players may expend 100 points to negotiate with the gamemaster to add one new rule to the Culling game.
  • Following the previous rule, the gamemaster must accept any proposed new rule unless it has a marked and long-lasting effect on the culling game.
  • If a player’s score remains the same for 19 days, then the player shall be subject to cursed technique removal.

Players will be given a shikigami named Kogane for any assistance. It will also play as the middleman between the player and the game master.

Kenjaku is not the game master so killing him will not end the Culling games.

Tengen explains to them how can they release Gojo from the Prison Realm. She shows them the back gate of the prison realm and explains that the authority to open the back gate currently lies with Kenjaku as he is the one who has the Front gate (Prison Realm).

However, the back gate can be forcibly opened by the two cursed tools: 1. Inverted Spear of Heaven and 2. Black Ropes, because both of these tools nullify the curse technique. However, it is unfortunate that Gojo destroyed these tools many years ago.

But then there is only one way, to seek the help of Angel (Hana Kurusu), who is a sorcerer from the Hein Era, reincarnated by Kenjaku. She is also participating in the Culling games.

It is everything about the Culling Games arc.
