The highly anticipated live-action version of One Piece has finally been released! Fans of the beloved manga and anime series can now witness their favorite characters come to life in a fresh and exciting way. But does the show deliver on its hype? Here is my One Piece review.

The One-Piece show on Netflix is a live-action adaptation of the manga series. This series falls in the fiction, fantasy, adventure-drama genre, so if you haven’t seen any kind of manga series or anime before, this live-action adaptation is made for you. If you are a hardcore anime and manga lover, you probably won’t like it and if you compare it with manga, you will find many shortcomings in it. But if we look at it from the perspective of a fresh TV series and not take the point of adaptation out of comparison, then yes, it is definitely a one-time watch.

There are eight episodes in the series, and all are available to watch on Netflix.

This story follows the journey of a young boy named Monkey D. Luffy who enters on a quest to locate the legendary One-Piece treasure, originally belonging to Gol D. Roger. As Roger faces his execution, he shares information with the public regarding the location of the treasure, igniting a search that involves not only Luffy but also many others. Along the way, Luffy teams up with fellow adventurers like Zoro, Nami, Sanji, and many more in pursuit of this puzzling prize, and their exciting journey begins.

The show stars IƱaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, a young boy with the goal of becoming the King of the Pirates. He possesses the unique ability to stretch his body like rubber. Emily Rudd plays Nami, a talented thief and navigator who desires to map the entire globe. Additionally, she demonstrates mastery of the Clima-tact, a weapon capable of controlling the weather. Mackenyu portrays Roronoa Zoro, a skilled swordsman and one of Luffy’s crewmates, who aims to become the greatest swordsman in the world. He is known for his three-sword style. Jacob Romero Gibson plays Usopp, a sniper and one of Luffy’s companions, who has a resourceful yet cowardly personality. Finally, Taz Skylar is Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates’ cook, who also possesses martial arts skills and is a master of the Diable Jambe technique.

The Good

The series has excellent storytelling, earning praise from both manga and anime fans.

In each episode, a different character comes forward and we are also introduced to the power of the characters, which looks good and even helps the non-anime watchers to understand the concept of One Piece characters.

The set pieces, production value, VFX, or the costumes worn by the actors and actors are shown, that too is excellent. The actors were cast exceptionally well, and their performances were truly charming. The characters in this series are so well-developed that everyone will have a favorite by the end.

One thing I appreciated about their presentation was the One Piece logo in each episode matching the environment.

The Bad

This is a fictional fantasy story. So, some elements in this live-action series become difficult to believe. Even for which there is no explanation, I mean, if a person falls from the tenth floor in an animated series, nothing will happen to him. But in live action, if you are showing a scene with a live human character, then you will have to keep your brain aside and stop finding logic in every scene.

The second thing was the look and design of the main villain, I didn’t like it much. I had high expectations from the last battle. Even there the series has disappointed me. Still, regarding the negative points, I will only say that, if you like watching teenage dramas, then you will find it entertaining.

In general, the One Piece live-action is a highly enjoyable and entertaining watch for fans of all ages, whether they are new to the anime or have been following it for years. As previously mentioned, this adaptation has been embraced by both old and new fans alike. If Netflix maintains this level of quality for live-action anime adaptations, we can anticipate more impressive productions in the future.
